On calorifiers which heat a buildings water we constantly dose the water supply at 25 parts per million with stabilised hydrogen peroxide to control legionella. It only happens on the hot water side. The stabilised hydrogen peroxide stays active as a trace in the system to remove the feeding ground for legionella and eradicate pseudomonas. This gives the opportunity to drop the temperature on the calorifiers towards 50 degrees C whilst maintaining a stringent testing regime for legionella. We develop a protocol specific to the site to cover all eventualities and manage risk whilst getting the benefits of this approach. Paybacks are circa a year on initial costs and then the only other cost is the chemical which is constantly dosed into the hot water supply. Gas savings are between 30 and 50%.
